Ukraine could cut Russia dependence by relying on EU, says analyst

KIEV, Aug. 3 – Ukraine could cut long-lasting dependency on Russian energy if the country actively develops long-term cooperation with the European Union in energy saving industry, Simon Pirani, a Senior Research Fellow at the Oxford Institute of Energy Studies, said in an article for the Dzerkalo Tyzhnia (Mirror Weekly) newspaper.


Energy Company president casts doubt on oblenergo privatizations

KIEV, Aug. 3 – Energy Company of Ukraine President Volodymyr Zinevych said that he doubts there will be a successful privatization of state stakes in 14 regional electricity supply companies in 2009, which were transferred to the statutory capital of the holding.


Fitch downgrades Nafotgaz foreign and local currency ratings to CC

KIEV, July 31 - Fitch Ratings has downgraded Naftogaz's Long-term foreign and local currency Issuer Default ratings (IDRs) to 'CC' from 'B-'.

According to a Fitch statement, both ratings remain on Rating Watch Negative (RWN).


Bogdan Corporation suspends construction of bus plant in Russia

KIEV, July 31 – Bogdan Corporation, one of the largest operators on the car market in Ukraine, has indefinitely suspended the construction of a bus plant in Russia that was to have been started in H2, Bogdan Corporation Press Secretary Serhiy Krasulia told Interfax-Ukraine.


Ukraine prolongs syringe dumping investigation by two months

Japan’s Sumitomo Group closing Chernivtsi Nissan wiring facility

KIEV, July 31 – Japan's Sumitomo Electric Wiring systems, one of Sumitomo's subdivisions, has decided to close as of Sept. 2 a Chernivtsi-based facility for the production of wiring for Nissan cars, which was launched at the Kvartz plant in 2008.
