KIEV, Aug. 3 – Ukraine could cut long-lasting dependency on Russian energy if the country actively develops long-term cooperation with the European Union in energy saving industry, Simon Pirani, a Senior Research Fellow at the Oxford Institute of Energy Studies, said in an article for the Dzerkalo Tyzhnia (Mirror Weekly) newspaper.
He said that before crisis started, energy expenses in the Ukrainian steel industry were facilitated thanks to loans issued by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and other international financial institutions, as well as new European technologies.
