Ukraine suspends scheduled troop reduction for 1st time since 1991
KIEV, Sept. 9 – Ukraine suspended its reduction of army troops for the first time since 1991 in reaction to Russia’s incursion into Georgia last month.
Defense Minister Yuriy Yekhanurov said the decision was recently supported by the National Security and Defense Council, the country’s top security body, and by President Viktor Yushchenko. |
EU offers closer relationship to Ukraine
PARIS, Sept. 9 – The European Union on Tuesday offered Ukraine significantly increased political and economic ties, but fell short of clearly indicating the possibility of the country’s eventual membership in the bloc.

Zaporizhia NPP may have to shut down if power lines damaged: Energoatom
KYIV, Aug 8 – Zaporizhia NPP is currently connected to the energy system of Ukraine by one operating transmission line, and if it is damaged by Russian invaders, the plant will switch to blackout mode, President of Energoatom Petro Kotin said on the air of the national telethon on Monday.

KYIV, Aug 8 – Ukraine must focus on winning the war against Russia because that country does not respect international order and any negotiated agreement will probably be violated by Moscow, Mykhailo Podoliak, advisor to head of the President’s Office, said.
