KIEV, Oct. 20 – President Viktor Yushchenko said Monday that effective immediately he will be taking strict control over the situation in the economy in response to an emerging financial crisis that threatens national security.

The announcement comes as Yushchenko has unveiled his economic rescue package, which calls for the creation of multi-billion state stabilization fund, aimed at averting the crisis.
