KIEV, Feb. 24 - Ukraine suspended all upfront payments for supplies of Russian natural gas following Russian gas giant Gazprom’s failure to deliver ordered and prepaid gas over the past two days, Naftogaz reported Tuesday.
Naftogaz ordered supplies of 114 million cubic meters of gas both, on February 22 and February 23, but the Russian company had only delivered 47 million cu m and 39 million cu m, respectively.
“Naftogaz does not consider it’s possible to make any additional advance payments for Russian gas supplies until it receives reasonable assurance of strict observance to the contract by Gazprom,” the Ukrainian company said in a statement.
