STRASBOURG, Jan. 21 - The European Court of Human Rights has ordered Ukraine to pay EUR 500,000 under five lawsuits.
One case concerned the treatment of a group of detainees during and after a search and security operation conducted in January 2007 in Izyaslav Prison. Ukraine is to pay EUR 25,000 to each of the 17 applicants with respect to non-pecuniary damage and EUR 10,000 to one of the applicants with respect to costs and expenses.
The next decision concerns Polish citizen Dariusz Chabrowski, who complained of the lengthy failure of the Ukrainian authorities to enforce a judicial decision on returning his abducted child to Poland. The ECHR obliged Ukraine to pay him EUR 7,500 as non-pecuniary damage and EUR 3,285 as costs and expenses.
