KIEV, Jan. 26 – President Viktor Yanukovych and Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan signed a joint declaration to establish a high-level strategic council between Ukraine and Turkey among other measures boosting mutual cooperation.

Ukraine and Turkey will seek to double mutual trade between the two during the next five years to $10 billion annually, and will seek to further increase it to $20 billion within 10 years.

"We have agreed that we set a task for the first five years to increase trade between our two countries to $10 billion, and double it over ten years to $20 billion," Yanukovych said at a press conference Tuesday.

Ukraine and Turkey have agreed to launch measures aimed at canceling visa requirements, Yanukovych said. "We have agreed to launch a visa cancellation process," Yanukovych said.

A total of six documents were signed as a result of Erdogan's visit to Ukraine, including an agreement between the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine and the Government of Turkey on setting up an international direct freight rail-ferry service.

Also, a memorandum of understanding in the energy sector was signed between the Energy and Coal Industry Ministry of Ukraine and the Energy and Natural Resources Ministry of Turkey, and a cooperation program between Ukraine's state inspectorate for nuclear regulation and Turkey's state agency for nuclear energy.
