KIEV, June 2 – A bill submitted to Parliament by President Viktor Yanukovych would drastically reorganize Ukraine’s judicial system.
Proposals include the creation of a Higher Specialized Court of Ukraine to consider civil and criminal cases, a decrease in the number of judges of the Supreme Court of Ukraine, a limitation on the functions of the Supreme Court of Ukraine, and the disbanding of military courts.
The text of the draft law was posted on the official Web site of Parliament on Tuesday. An explanatory note to the draft law reads that these amendments improve the system of courts of general instance.
