President forecasts 12.9% GDP contraction, differing with govt

KIEV, Sept. 17 - President Viktor Yushchenko's secretariat has forecast that Ukraine's real GDP will shrink by 12.9% and nominal GDP by 8.6% in 2009.

This year's nominal GDP in Ukraine will amount to UAH956.4 billion, according to Oleksandr Shlapak, first deputy head of the presidential secretariat.

NBU official: Govt must enact IMF reforms

DPM: Government has not received official word of Russian sanctions

KIEV, Sept. 17 – Ukraine's government has not received any official notifications concerning the imposition of economic sanctions on Ukrainian goods, Deputy Prime Minister Hryhoriy Nemyria told the press in Kiev on Tuesday.


Tymoshenko group begins coalition talks with Regions, other parties

KIEV, Sept. 17 – Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko’s group on Wednesday began official “consultations” with the pro-Russian Regions Party and two other groups over the creation of a new coalition, a Tymoshenko loyalist said.

This comes as Parliamentary Speaker Arseniy Yatseniuk announced his resignation on Wednesday, putting greater pressure on the groups to forge the coalition that would appoint the new speaker.

KIEV, Sept. 17 - French nuclear engineering concern Novarka will build a $505 million state-of-the-art cover around the damaged nuclear reactor of Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant, according to a contract signed Monday.
