KIEV, Sept. 6 - President Viktor Yanukovych will visit the European Union's headquarters in Brussels on September 13 as part of the country's euro-integration bid, a Foreign Ministry spokesman said on Monday.

Yushchenko meets with Gaddafi in Libya, signs military deals

KIEV, Sept. 3 – Ukraine has agreed with Libya to sign contracts to cooperate in the military and technical sector, Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko said during a visit to Libya on Thursday.

"All of the details in the contracts have been discussed, and cooperation between Ukraine and Libya has received the highest political support," Tymoshenko said after a meeting with Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi, the Ukrainian government's press service reported.

KIEV, Sept. 3 – Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko has increased the forecast for the purchase by Ukraine of Russian gas in 2010 to 27-33 billion cubic meters.

"We've agreed that because of the crisis, Ukraine will consume less gas both in 2009 and 2010.


169 arrested in attempt to seize Nova Kakhovka cognac plant

KIEV, Sept. 4 – A total of 169 people have been arrested and 39 people injured as a result of an attempt to seize the Tavria cognac plant in Nova Kakhovka, Interior Minister Yuriy Lutsenko said.

He said in Kiev on Friday that 39 people had been hospitalized with various injuries as a result of the raider attack on the plant. Lutsenko said that the victims also included two police officers who suffered gunshot wounds.

Police also arrested 169 people involved in the clash, he said.
