Ukraine fails to get IMF to resume $15.5 billion loan program

KIEV, Nov. 3 - Ukraine failed to persuade the International Monetary Fund to resume a $15.5 billion loan program, the central bank indicated Friday, stripping the country of a key funding option as it confronts a looming currency crisis.

“The IMF mission is completing its work in Ukraine,” the bank said in a statement.

Yushchenko to cut his own staff by 25% in austerity measure

KIEV, Nov. 4 – President Viktor Yushchenko has signed a decree decreasing by a quarter the staff of the offices of the head of state.

The decree was issued ten days after a decision taken by the National Security and Defense Council on tackling the financial crisis, the presidential press service quoted Presidential Secretariat Head Viktor Baloha as saying.


NBU gross reserves fell 15% in October, central bank reports

KIEV, Nov. 6 - The National Bank of Ukraine reported on its official website Thuesday that its gross international reserves in October went down by 15%, or by $5.605 billion, to $31.923 billion.

In September, the central bank’s reserves went down by 1.4%, or $533.98 million.


Libyan officials coming to discuss refinery construction in Ukraine

KIEV, Nov. 6 - Libya within the next three weeks will send a team to Ukraine for talks over construction of an oil refinery, a top official at the office of President Viktor Yushchenko said Thursday.
