8th annual YES conference set for Sept. 15 at Yalta’s Livadia Palace
KIEV, Sept. 8 – The eighth Yalta Annual Meeting "Ukraine and the World: Common Challenges, Common Future" will take place in the Livadia Palace in Yalta on September 15-18, according to the organizers of the event.
On September 16, Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych and Israeli President Shimon Peres will deliver speeches to open the forum. |
Foreign ministry denies reports Libyans tortured Ukraine citizens
KIEV, Sept. 8 – The Foreign Ministry has denied reports by some media that Ukrainian citizens detained in Libya have been tortured.
"The information published by a number of media about the torture of citizens of Ukraine in Libya is absolutely untrue," Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesman Oleksandr Dykusarov said on Thursday. |

Pension reform law to take effect Oct. 1 after president’s signature
KIEV, Sept. 6 – The law on pension reform will take effect on October 1, 2011, if the president signs it.
A total 245 out of the 315 MPs registered in the parliament hall on Tuesday voted for the bill.
Moreover, MPs introduced amendments to the law on pension reform of July 8, 2011, which means the fulfillment of one of the two key conditions for the continuation of cooperation between Ukraine and the International Monetary Fund. A total of 248 MPs voted for the adoption of such a law. |
Ukrainians worked for Gaddafi as military engineers, says official
KIEV, Sept. 6 - The Ukrainians detained by the new Libyan authorities are former military engineers, the Ukrainian newspaper Segodnya (Today) wrote on Tuesday, citing a Ukrainian security officer.
Asked by Segodnya whether the Ukrainian Security Service (SBU) has any information about our possible mercenaries in Libya, the SBU first deputy chief Volodymyr Rokytsky replied in the negative, but stated that this information is being verified. |
Lviv council sacks president’s appointee
KIEV, Sept. 8 – The Lviv region council on Wednesday approved a no-confidence motion against Lviv region governor Vasyl Horbal, an appointee of President Viktor Yanukovych, setting stage for a clash with local elite. |
