KIEV, Sept. 8 - Ukraine on Wednesday rejected Russia’s proposal to merge national energy company Naftogaz Ukrayiny and Russian gas giant Gazprom, adding it would rather focus on creating a joint venture.
Energy and Fuel Minister Yuriy Boyko responded to comments by Gazprom CEO Alexei Miller, who had insisted on Tuesday that Gazprom should merge its assets with Naftogaz at some point.
“Naftogaz will not merge with Gazprom,” Boyko told reporters on Wednesday. “There is the position of our president that any merger should be on a parity basis.”
