Attitude toward Russia may not be key in presidential vote: poll

KIEV, April 13 – While the preferences of Ukrainian voters relate to their attitude to Russia there are no reasons to suggest that the attitude to Russia will be a key foreign policy factor at the presidential elections, the president of Kiev International Institute of Sociology, Valeriy Khmelko, told the Dzerkalo Tyzhnya weekly newspaper while commenting on the results of a survey conducted in February.


Yushchenko aide: Tymoshenko should follow Yushchenko foreign policy

KIEV, April 13 – Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko should follow foreign policy instructions from President Viktor Yushchenko while restarting talks with Russia over energy issues, a senior Yushchenko advisor said Monday.


Tymoshenko government appoints Umanskiy as acting finance minister

KIEV, April 13 – Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko’s government appointed Ihor Umanskiy, the first deputy finance minister, as acting finance minister, according to a resolution posted on the government’s website Monday.

Umanskiy will supervise the implementation of the budget as Ukraine goes through its worst economic and fiscal crises since the breakup of the former Soviet Union ion 1991.


Rada to vote again on anti-crisis bills

KIEV, April 13 – Parliament on Tuesday will debate and vote on Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko’s anti-crisis legislation, the approval of which is crucial for the International Monetary Fund’s decision to resume lending to cash-strapped Ukraine.

DNIPROPETROVSK, April 10 – The governors of the six Ukrainian regions that will host the Euro 2012 European football championship finals are to write a joint letter to ask President Viktor Yushchenko to take an international credit of EUR7 billion to build and reconstruct highways by 2012, Dnipropetrovsk Regional Governor Viktor Serheyev told the press at a press conference on Thursday.


EnergoAtom deal with Westinghouse aimed at preventing fuel disruption

KIEV, April 10 – The development of cooperation between the national nuclear generating company EnergoAtom and Westinghouse is aimed at minimizing the risks of the stoppage of fuel supplies to Ukrainian nuclear power plants, which generate around 50% of electricity in the country, according to deputy fuel and energy minister and former EnergoAtom president, Yuriy Nedashkovsky.
