Iron and steel production reported down sharply in December

DNIPROPETROVSK, Jan. 12 – Ukrainian metal companies cut cast iron production by 1.9% in December, steel output by 4.1% and rolled steel output by 3.1% compared to November due to a continuous fall in demand for metal products on the global and domestic markets, the Dnipropetrovsk-based Metallurgprom association announced at a meeting representatives of the mining and metal complex in Dnipropetrovsk.


Coal mines reportedly increased production by 8.9% last year

KIEV, Jan. 10 – Coal mines in Ukraine upped coal production by 8.9% (6.693 million tons) in 2011 to 81.859 million tons, the Energy and Coal Ministry reported.

The ministry said that production of energy coal went up by 11.4% to 57 million tons while coking coal output grew by 3.7% to 24.859 million tons.


Ukraine postpones switch to Euro 4 and Euro 5 standards until July

Metal companies expected to post UAH3 billion of 2011 pretax losses

DNIPROPETROVSK, Jan. 12 – Ukrainian metal companies in 2011 will see pretax losses from operations of around UAH 3 billion.

The forecast, which is based on the pace of operations of metal companies in the 11 months ending November 2011, was presented by Metallurgprom Director General Vasyl Kharakhulakh at a meeting of representatives of the mining and metal complex of the country in Dnipropetrovsk on Wednesday.

Ukraine grain exports reported at 6.7m tons so far this marketing yr

KIEV, Jan. 11 – Shareholders in Simferopol-based Chornomornaftogaz at an extraordinary general meeting on January 21 plan to consider increasing the company's statutory fund 27.6-fold or by UAH 10 billion, to UAH 10.377 billion.
