Donetsk’s DTEK negotiating export contracts for October electricity

KIEV, Sept. 12 – Donetsk-based DTEK Power Trade LLC said it is in talks on the start of commercial exports of Ukrainian electricity to Poland in October.

The company said that agreements with potential buyers of Ukrainian electricity could be reached by late September.


Court overturns ruling requiring return of aluminum plant to state

KIEV, Sept. 12 – Ukraine’s Higher Economic Court has cancelled a lower rulings ordering the return to state ownership of a privatized 68.01% stake in Zaporizhia aluminum plant (ZAlK).


Bank liquidity reduction has lessened inflation, says NBU governor

KIEV, Sept. 9 – The shrinkage of banks' liquidity has made possible a reduction in inflation, said National Bank of Ukraine Governor Serhiy Arbuzov.

"Excess cash in the economy in the end results in an increase in a large assortment of consumer goods. It is the measures taken by the NBU that made it possible to reduce demand inflation. The stability of the forex rate of the hryvnia was also conducive to an improvement in the situation with inflation," he said.


Ukrainian employers urge PM to push for revision of WTO guarantees

KIEV, Sept. 9 – Ukrainian employers have said in a letter to Prime Minister Mykola Azarov that Ukraine should hold talks on revising the guarantees concerning access to external markets to which Ukraine is entitled as a member of the WTO.


NBU expects steady inflation and rising hryvnia, says governor

KIEV, Sept. 9 – The National Bank of Ukraine expects inflation to remain within forecast limits and sees prospects for the strengthening of the hryvnia, said NBU Governor Serhiy Arbuzov.


Hryvnia will be stable in 2011 and 2012, finance minister tells Rada

KIEV, Sept. 9 – The exchange rate of the hryvnia against the U.S. dollar will be stable in 2011 and 2012, Finance Minister Fedir Yaroshenko said.

"The exchange rate of the dollar [against the hryvnia] will be stable this year and next year, and it will have no effect on the income of citizens," he told Parliament on Friday.


75% of Ukrainian sewage plants fail to meet standards, officials say

KIEV, Sept. 10 – Seventy five percent of the sewage treatment facilities of Ukraine fail to ensure the treatment of sewage water in line with established standards because these facilities have become outdated, Drinking Water of Ukraine Association President Volodymyr Skupchenko said at a press conference in Kiev.


Flextronics to launch new electronic equipment plant in Mukacheve

KIEV, Sept. 9 – Flextronics multi-industry corporation (Singapore), which had an annual turnover of almost $31 billion in 2009, plans to launch a new electronic equipment plant in Mukacheve (Zakarpattia region) in spring 2011.


Thai government confirms plans to buy 100 Ukrainian armored vehicles

KIEV, Sept. 9 – The government of Thailand has confirmed its plans to purchase 100 Ukrainian BTR-3E1 armored vehicles, which was on hold after Germany refused to sell Deutz engines for these BTRs, Thailand's The Nation online publication reported.


National Council cancels broadcasting licenses following court ruling

KIEV, Sept. 10 – The National Council for Television and Radio Broadcasting has canceled two broadcasting licenses of Channel 5 (the Express-Inform Television and Radio Company and the NBM Television and Radio Company) and some supplements to broadcasting licenses of the TVi Channel (the TeleRadioSvit Company).
