Cabinet OKs UAH621 million Donetsk thermal power plant reconstruction

KIEV, Jan. 10 – The Cabinet of Ministers has approved a project on the reconstruction of unit 13 of Starobesheve Donbasenergo’s (Donetsk region) thermal power plant at a projected cost of works of UAH 621.49 million.


5,800 government workers to lose jobs after Tax/Customs merger

KIEV, Jan. 10 – The number of employees of the Income and Tax Ministry will fall by 5,800 after the merger of the Tax and Customs Services into a single structure, reports Income and Tax Minister Oleksandr Klymenko.


Ukrainians split between EU and Customs Union, according to poll

Donetsk region miners back to work after fatal methane explosion

KIEV, Jan. 11 - Komsomolets Donbasu Mine, the Donetsk region facility where a methane gas explosion on January 3 killed three miners, has resumed coal extraction, DTEK, Ukraine’s largest vertically integrated energy holding of Ukraine, told Interfax-Ukraine.


In shift from Russia, Ukraine turns to European natural gas supplier

KIEV, Jan. 11 - Ukraine imported 57 million cubic meters of natural gas from Europe in 2012 under a contract with German gas supplier RWE, a source at Naftogaz Ukrayiny, the national energy company, said Friday.

KIEV, Jan. 13 - DTEK, Ukraine’s largest privately owned energy holding company, reports it has signed an agreement with the State Property Fund on the leasing of property of the Dobropilliavuhillia state-run enterprise (Donetsk region) for 48 years.


Ukraine slips 2 notches in Heritage Foundation economic freedom rank

MOSCOW/KIEV, Jan. 13 - Hong Kong has topped the 2011 Index of Economic Freedom ranking conducted by the Heritage Foundation and the Wall Street Journal, while Ukraine dropped two positions from 2010 to 164th and Russia ranked 143rd (same as last year) out of a total of 179 countries assessed for the ranking.


TBIF Financial Services boosts stake in Ukraine’s VA Bank to 63%

KIEV, Jan. 13 - Netherlands' TBIF Financial Services N.V., part of the Kardan N.V. investment group, has increased its stake in the charter capital of Ukraine's VAB Bank from 48.91% to 63.01%, Ukraine's Securities and Stock Market Commission said through its information dispensing system.

These changes were posted in the registrar of owners on January 11.
