KIEV, May 19 – The hryvnia rose sharply against the U.S. dollar on Monday following comments from a senior official at the National Bank of Ukraine that the bank will soon stop intervening on the currency market by buying excessive hard currency.
The hryvnia gained 2.3% against the U.S. dollar, the biggest one-day gain over the past three years, in trading between commercial banks, closing at 4.66 hryvnias to the dollar.
