KYIV, Oct 8 - The volume of electricity production by nuclear power plants in Ukraine (NPP) in the heating season of 2021/2022 will grow by 5.5 billion kWh compared to the previous one, which is equivalent to 3 million tons of coal, Energy Minister Herman Haluschenko said.
"In the context of high prices for hydrocarbons, we are betting on nuclear power plants. Nuclear generation will operate at a record capacity - 14 out of 15 power units. Compared to the previous heating season, NPP production volumes will grow by 5.5 billion kWh, which will reduce the demand for coal by approximately 3 million tons," he said during the Hour of Questions to the Government in the Verkhovna Rada.
