KYIV, May 22 – The increase in the ferrous scrap export duty from EUR 30 per tone to EUR 42 per tone and its extension for another year could halt scrap exports and cut the volume of scrap production in Ukraine, state-owned enterprise (SOE) Derzhzovnishinform has said in a press release.
"In April, the largest amount of scrap was exported from the beginning of the year – 76,330 tones worth $24.87 million. However, the growth of the export duty from EUR30 per tone to EUR 42 per tone may completely limit the export of scrap from Ukraine and reduce the volume of its harvesting in Ukraine country," Head of the research department for metallurgy and engineering markets at Derzhzovnishinform Valeriy Studentsov said.
