KIEV, Aug. 20 - The local council in Ivano-Frankivsk region on Tuesday rejected a shale gas production sharing agreement (PSA) with Chevron amid concerns over the project’s impact on the environment.
Two opposition groups, Svoboda and Batkivshchyna, that have a major presence in the Ivano-Frankivsk council, refused to support the PSA and submitted 130 amendments that must be approved by the government.
“If these amendments are taken into account and the government listens to all reservations and resubmits the PSA, then local lawmakers may support it,” Vasyl Skrypnychuk, the head of the Ivano-Frankivsk council, said.
