Odessa port problems may cripple Kirovohrad piston manufacturer
Journal Staff Report

KIEV, Oct. 20 – Hydrosila APM (Kirovohrad), the largest axial-piston unit manufacturer in the CIS and part of the Hydrosila Group, says it could stop work completely due to delays with cargo customs clearance at the Odessa maritime merchandise port.

Serhiy Oliynyk, chairman of the company’s trade union committee, said that over 600 employees could be laid off.

According to Oliynyk, containers with spare parts for Hydrosila APM have been at the port for over two weeks.

"Today, on October 19, the plant has forced to be idle for 10 days," the company said.

The leader of the trade union said that apart from disruption to product supplies to consumers from the United States, Thailand, Brazil and Peru, which the delays caused, the situation is threatening to put around 613 workers on indefinite leave.
