KIEV, July 18 – The measures to curb consumer crediting planned by the National Bank of Ukraine could be a weak driver for reducing imports, but a large negative factor for banks, according to Volodymyr Lavrenchuk, chairman of Raiffeisen Bank Aval (Kiev).
"We should think how to reduce imports, but not through consumer crediting, as this could fail to work," he said.
The banker thanked the NBU for the sending of a draft resolution for discussion and expressed confidence that the banking sector would submit proposals for the document.
