PM to meet with Slovakia leaders Thursday on energy sector cooperation

KIEV, Sept. 8 - Prime Minister Arseniy Yatseniuk will travel to Bratislava on Thursday for a meeting with Slovakian leaders to increase cooperation in the energy sector, the government’s press service said Tuesday.


Kiev accepts Hague war crime jurisdiction

THE HAGUE, Sept. 8 - Ukraine on Tuesday accepted the International Criminal Court's jurisdiction to probe war crimes committed since February 2014, including in its war-torn east where thousands have been killed, AFP reported.


Construction of Russian border wall will start soon, says official

KIEV, Sept. 5 – The border with Russia will be equipped with engineering structures in two stages, and the first stage involves the construction of a wall on the border in Sumy, Kharkiv, and Chernihiv regions, and part of Luhansk region, Deputy Chief of State Border Guard Service Pavlo Shysholin said at a presentation of the Wall project.

President visits eastern port of Mariupol

KIEV, Sept. 8 - President Petro Poroshenko visited the eastern port of Mariupol on Monday and promised to deal a "crushing defeat" to pro-Russian rebels massed on the edge of town if they tried to advance in violation of a ceasefire agreement, wire services reported.


Ukraine energy policy aimed at gas diversification, says president

KIEV, Sept. 5 – Ukraine's energy policy is aimed at the diversification of gas supplies, President Viktor Yanukovych said.

During a meeting with candidates for positions of heads of district state administrations, he noted that Ukraine has started to buy gas on the European market, where it is much cheaper than in Russia.


Parliament gives first-reading OK to investment attraction bill

KIEV, Sept. 6 – Parliament has supported at first reading a draft law on the stimulation of the attraction of investment to Ukraine.

Some 323 out of 349 lawmakers registered in the session hall on Thursday supported the law at first reading.


Kiev will free Yulia soon, says official

KIEV, Sept. 8 – Ukraine will resolve the legal issue of releasing jailed former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko for treatment in Germany no later than October, Parliamentary Speaker Volodymyr Rybak said.
