Canadian prime minister expected to sign long-awaited free-trade deal

KIEV, July 10 – Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will sign a long-awaited free trade deal with Ukraine on Monday before paying his respects to those who fought and died in the country's revolution, known as the Euromaidan, two years ago, The Canadian Press reported.


Ukraine promised continued NATO support

WARSAW, July 9 - Ukraine won promises of continued support at a NATO summit on Saturday but the prospect of Kiev's eventual membership of the U.S.-led military alliance seemed as distant as ever as the West seeks a tentative rapprochement with Russia, Reuters reported.


Opposition MPs hold 'sit-down' strike to try to block parliament

KIEV, July 7 – Members of parliament from Oleh Liashko's Radical Party and Yulia Tymoshenko's Batkivschyna Party have announced a sit-down strike.

"We've switching over to another form of protest. We won't be fighting in here… We announce a sit-down strike, Liashko said while reading out a statement by the two parties' parliamentary factions on Thursday morning.


EP committee approves lifting visa requirements for Ukrainians

KIEV, July 7 – The European Parliament Committee on Foreign Affairs has voted in favor of recommending that the European Parliament lift visa requirements as soon as possible for Ukrainian citizens who make short trips in the Schengen zone, Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Ivanna Klympush-Tsintsadze said.


Deputy health minister arrested on suspicion of taking bribes

KIEV, July 8 – The SBU Security Service and the Prosecutor General's Office have detained Deputy Health Minister Roman Vasylyshyn on suspicion of taking bribes, SBU chief Vasyl Hrytsak said.
