Moldovans issue arrest warrant for EnergoAtom’s president

KIEV, Nov. 21 – Criminal proceedings have been instituted in Moldova on charges of non-compliance with court ruling and an order has been issued for the arrest of president of the Ukrainian state-run enterprise National Nuclear Generating Company EnergoAtom Yuriy Nedashkovsky, according to the Dzerkalo Tyzhnia Ukraine (Mirror Weekly) newspaper.


NBU directs Ukrainian banks to beef up client identification

KIEV, Nov. 21 – Banks should demand information to specify data regarding identification of clients, assessment of their financial state and the core of their activities, taking into account the level of risk defined under an internal bank program on money laundry risk assessment and management, the National Bank of Ukraine said in a letter to banks.


Net currency inflow will help support hryvnia, says NBU official

KIEV, Nov. 21 – The net inflow of foreign currency to Ukraine registered in January-October 2011 at some $12 billion provides for the proper support of the hryvnia exchange rate and points out the groundlessness of talks around coming devaluation, according to Serhiy Korablin, the director of the department for analysis and projections on the monetary and credit market at the National Bank of Ukraine.


Naftogaz deficit may hit UAH15 billion this year, Ukrainians tell IMF

KIEV, Nov. 18 – Naftogaz Ukrainy’s deficit in 2010 may hit UAH 15 billion, reads a draft memorandum by the Ukrainian authorities seeking the second tranche of a loan from the International Monetary Fund.

The text of the document was posted on the Ekonomichna Pravda online newspaper.


Ukrainians promise IMF to stick to women’s pension age increases

KIEV, Nov. 18 – The Ukrainian authorities fully intend to gradually increase the retirement age for women from 55 to 60 years despite trade union protests.


Natural gas stockpile reported up 2.5% to 24.4 bcm last month

KIEV, Nov. 19 - Natural gas stocks in underground storage facilities in October grew by 2.5% or 600 million cubic meters, to 24.4 billion cubic meters (bcm), the Fuel and Energy Ministry said.


Parliament gives second-reading approval to 40% oil, gas royalty hike

KIEV, Nov. 19 – Parliament has increased oil, gas and gas condensate extraction royalties by 40%.

The requirement is stipulated in Article 258 of section 10 of the Tax Code approved at second reading.

The lawmakers decided to consider a larger increase in the royalties after additional discussion.


Largest Ukraine steel and mining group to double output in 2011

KIEV, Nov. 19 - Ukraine’s largest steel and mining group, Metinvest, will more than double its annual output of steel up to 16 million metric tons in 2011, a senior official at the group said Friday.


Ukraine seeking $2.2 billion from China for coal industry subsidies

KIEV, Nov. 19 - Ukraine plans to increase state subsidies to the coal mining industry next year and is currently in talks with China over borrowing $2.2 billion for that reason, Volodymyr Fichov, a deputy energy and fuel minister, said.


Ukraine’s UkrTatNafta refinery gets crude delivered by oil tankers

KIEV, Nov. 21 - Ukraine’s largest oil refinery UkrTatNafta switched to refining crude delivered by oil tankers as Russian oil company Tatneft had continued its supply boycott, a source at the refinery said Wednesday.

UkrTatNafta was operating in emergency mode since October 22 when Tatneft, its minority shareholder and the key supplier of crude, had suddenly suspended the supplies due to a shareholder dispute.
