Kherson refinery reconstruction could cost billions, says official

KHERSON, Sept. 28 – A feasibility study on the reconstruction of Kherson oil refinery, which has been idle since 2005, foresees two options costing $1.2 billion or $3.2 billion, the plant's acting chairman Volodymyr Semihen, said at a press conference after the Tavria Horizons investment forum.


Higher Russian gas exports lift Gazprom output and transit volume

MOSCOW, Sept. 28 - Higher Russian gas exports in September lifted output by Gazprom and even transit across Ukraine.

Russia boosted gas exports to non-CIS countries 14% or 1. 3 billion cubic meters in September this year compared with September 2011 to 10.8 bcm, according to preliminary data from the Central Dispatching Department of the Fuel and Energy Complex (CDU TEK).


Visa payment law criticism not in line with US practice, says EMA

KIEV, Oct. 1 – The Visa international payment system's criticism of the law on the functioning of payment systems in Ukraine passed by the Ukrainian parliament is not in line with the behavior of the company on the U.S. market, according to Director of the Ukrainian Interbank Payment Systems Member Association EMA, Oleksandr Karpov.

Domestic grain price increases pose problem for Ukrainian government

KIEV, Oct. 1 – The price of grain crops on the domestic market is rising and will continue to do so, the Agricultural Policy and Food Ministry said.

"The situation on the grain crop domestic market is active and has an upward trend for prices… It is expected that in future the situation on the grain market will be that there is an upward trend for prices," reads a ministry report.


Ukraine’s GDP fell 17.8% in second quarter, according to government

KIEV, Sept. 30 – Ukraine's gross domestic product fell by 17.8% in Q2 compared to the second quarter of 2008, the State Statistics Committee reported.

The deflator index was 7.8%.


Naftogaz sells bonds to Oschadbank on ‘repo’ basis to pay Gazprom

KIEV, Oct. 1 – Naftogaz Ukrayiny, in order to pay for natural gas to Russia's Gazprom in July and August, sold to Oschadbank some of the state domestic loan bonds put in the statutory capital of the state holding by the government with repurchase obligations (repo deals).
