Kiev court orders Smart-holding to return privatized shipyard stake

KIEV, June 1 – Kiev Economic Court has ordered the return to state ownership of a 90.25% stake in Black Sea Shipyard (Mykolaiv).

The press service of the Ukrainian Prosecutor General's Office reported on Monday that the Prosecutor General's Office had established that there were irregularities during the privatization of the stake in the shipyard.


Chinese to finance stadium for Odessa’s Chornomorets football club

ODESSA, June 1 – Odessa-based Chornomorets football club and the Chinese National Machinery Industry Complete Engineering Corporation (CMCEC) have signed an agreement under which the Chinese side will finance the completion of the construction of the club's stadium and participate in the construction of a sport arena.


Study cites Ukraine as ‘epicenter’ of coal-bed methane extraction

KIEV, June 2 – Great interest in coal-bed methane extraction is seen in Ukraine, according to BernsteinResearch Company (the United States).

"While the market is awaiting the results of drilling in Poland, Ukraine is quickly becoming a new epicenter in the issue of nontraditional gas sources," reads a company study.

YTD iron ore production down at most Ukrainian mines through May 31

KIEV, June 2 - Most Ukrainian mines reduced iron ore production in January-May.

Poltava Mining, the core asset of Ferrexpo plc, cut commercial pellet production tentatively 11.1% year-on-year to 3.399 million tons, the company told Interfax. Iron ore concentrate production fell 9.8% to 4.095 million tons. PGOK exports most of its pellets.


Gazprom CEO admits he has ‘no idea’ how to pay for Russian gas

MOSCOW, June 2 – Gazprom CEO Alexei Miller - after meeting Naftogaz Ukrayiny chairman Oleh Dubyna in Moscow – said Tuesday he had no idea how the Ukrainian company will pay for natural gas imported in May.


Three Kiev-based banks reported close to government bailout

KIEV, June 1 -- Ukrgasbank, Rodovid Bank and Kyiv Bank remain very close to raising budget funds for additional capitalization, a government source said after a meeting of the expert and analytical council on the state's participation in banks' capitalization.


Moody’s downgrades Naftogaz Ukrayiny ratings to Caa1, from B2

KIEV, June 1 - Moody's Investors Service has downgraded Naftogaz Ukrayiny's foreign currency corporate family rating, probability of default and debt ratings from B2 to Caa1.

The outlook on the ratings was changed to negative.

Moody's said it had now concluded the review of Naftogaz's ratings started by the agency on March 11.


Residents of Ukraine’s capital paying more for hot and cold water

KIEV, June 2 – On June 1, Kiev city’s rates on cold running water services doubled, rates on hot running water services grew by 85%, and the rates on heat supply services went up by 48.8%.


Lviv city officials plan to raise EUR400 million for euro-track

KIEV, May 30 – Lviv city state administration plans to raise EUR400 million in loans and private funds to implement the Euro-track project, which foresees the extension of European-style 1.435-meter gauge railway tracks from the Polish border in Przemysl to Lviv.
