Authorities arrest tax and customs chief
KIEV, March 3 - Ukrainian state agencies detained the head of the tax and customs service on Friday over the alleged embezzlement of around $75 million - a potentially landmark case after patchy anti-graft efforts from the Western-backed authorities, Reuters reported. |
Another three of Ukraine's banks bite the dust, NBU reports
KIEV, March 3 – The National Bank of Ukraine has declared Delta Bank, Kreditprombank and Omega Bank (all based in Kiev) insolvent.
According to a posting on the NBU's website, the decisions are stipulated in NBU resolution Nos. 150, 151 and 152 of March 2. |
Chornomornaftogaz chief on job despite Crimean push for ouster

Energy Community gives Ukraine two months to boost grid capacity
KIEV, March 4 – The Energy Community's Secretariat has sent a letter to Ukraine giving it two months to bring the allocation of capacity to the country's electricity interconnectors with its Western neighbors and Moldova in line with the Energy Community's Auction Rules, or to justify its position. |
Ukraine's sole uranium miner reports production up 7.6% last year
KIEV, March 4 - Ukrainian state enterprise Skhidny Mining and Enrichment Combine (VostGOK), Ukraine's only uranium ore producer and processor, produced 960.2 tons of uranium concentrate in 2012, 7.6% more than in 2011, the Energy and Coal Ministry said in a report. |
Prominent Jewish leader escapes death in Kiev bombing attempt
KIEV, March 4 - An explosion in Kiev near the office of prominent Ukrainian businessman Vadym Rabynovych, who is also co-chairman of the European Jewish Parliament and president of the Pan-Ukrainian Jewish Congress, did not cause fatalities or injuries, but Rabynovych's Lexus was damaged, Kiev police reported. |
Zaporizhia semiconductor plant reaches polysilicon output capacity
KIEV, March 3 - Semiconductor Plant (Zaporizhia), run by Austria's Activ Solar, has achieved its full output capacity of 2,500 tons of polysilicon per year, Activ Solar CEO Johann Harter said on the sidelines of the third Ukrainian Energy Forum organized by Adam Smith Conferences on Friday. |
Russians say they’re willing to inspect Ukraine cheese co standards
MOSCOW, March 3 - Russia has completed examining documents of a number of Ukrainian factories exporting cheese products to Russia and notified Ukraine of its willingness to inspect compliance of their products with Russian quality standards on the spot, said Gennady Onishchenko, Russia's chief public health official and head of the consumer protection watchdog Rospotrebnadzor. |
