Russians move to block pork product imports from Zaporizhia region

KIEV, Aug. 6 - The Russian Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Oversight (Rosselkhoznadzor) has compelled its regional offices to conduct full veterinary inspection of the goods coming from Ukraine by all means of transport, including hand luggage, baggage, or by post, so as to prevent import of pork products from the Zaporizhia region.


Ukrainian steel pipe production off 41.6% YTD through July 31

KIEV, Aug. 4 - Steel pipe production in Ukraine plummeted 41.6% year-on-year to 886,200 tons in January-July, reports Ukrtruboprom, the Dnipropetrovsk-based Ukrainian pipe producers' association.


Bond issuance down drastically in H1, government agency reports

Ukraine consumer prices fall in July, reflecting weaker demand

KIEV, Aug. 6 - Ukraine’s consumer prices recorded a negative monthly increase in July, the first in the past 11 months, reflecting weaker demand for products and services due to ongoing economic crisis.

The prices dropped 0.1% on the month in July, reversing a 1.1% hike in June and 0.5% increase in May, the State Statistics Committee’s reported Thursday.

KIEV, Aug. 5 - Ukraine produced a preliminary estimate of 12.723 million tons of metallurgical coke with 6%-moisture content in January-July 2008, up 9.9% year-on-year, Anatoliy Starovoit, director of the Dnipropetrovsk-based coke producers' association Ukrkoks, told Interfax-Ukraine.


Total Ukraine electricity output up 2.5% YTD through July 31

KIEV, Aug. 5 - Total Ukrainian electricity output in January-July 2008 came to 115.064 billion kilowatt hours, an increase of 2.5% from the same period in 2007, the Fuel and Energy Ministry told Interfax-Ukraine.


S&P revises Ukraine’s gross problematic assets incidence estimate

KIEV, Aug. 5 - Standard & Poor's Ratings Services has revised its estimate of the incidence of gross problematic assets (GPAs) in the Ukrainian financial system under a reasonable (but not catastrophic) scenario of economic recession to 35-50% from 50-75%, the rating agency said in a statement.
