State purchases often bypass procedures, Accounting Chamber reports

KIEV, Sept. 10 – A quarter of state purchases in 2008 and the first half of 2009 were realized by cabinet resolutions, the Ukrainian Accounting Chamber reported.


Heating season threatened by reserve lack, says Kyivenergo chief

KIEV, Sept. 8 – The success of the heating season in the winter 2009-2010 could be under threat, Kyivenergo Chairman Eduard Sokolovsky has said.

"Currently the issue of accumulating reserves of alternative kinds of fuel, such as fuel oil, is urgent," Sokolovsky said. He said that "today there are no such reserves, and the company is greatly affected by this."


Agriculture ministry boosts forecast for 2009 harvest to 45m tons

KIEV, Sept. 9 - Ukraine's Agriculture Ministry has increased its forecast for the 2009 grain harvest from 42 million-43 million tons to 45 million tons, Minister Yuriy Melnyk told journalists in Kiev on Wednesday.


YTD iron ore exports rise 9.1% through August, trade group reports

KIEV, Sept. 9 - Ukraine raised iron ore exports 9.1% to 16.626 million tons in January-August compared to the same period of 2008, Ukrrudprom, the association of Ukrainian mining enterprises, told Interfax.


Finance ministry expresses satisfaction on Naftogaz restructure talks

KIEV, Sept. 9 - The Finance Ministry is satisfied with progress in Naftogaz Ukrayiny's negotiations with creditors.

"I am satisfied that the negotiations are taking place," acting Finance Minister Ihor Umansky told journalists on Wednesday.


Chinese company mulling transit project participation in Crimea

KIEV, Sept. 8 - China Road and Bridge Corporation (China), which constructs roads and bridges, is mulling the construction of roads and other transport infrastructure objects in Crimea, according to a statement on the official Web site of Crimea.


UIA expresses concern about situation on Ukrainian fuel market

KIEV, Sept. 10 – Ukraine International Airlines is alarmed by the situation on the Ukrainian aviation fuel market.

"In the light of the considerable fall in the price of oil over the past month, UIA sees a very favorable trend for a reduction in the price of aviation fuel in Europe – by 20% on average.


Official: Japan, Germany, Argentina interested in launch facility

KIEV, Sept. 10 – In addition to Brazil, representatives of Japan, Germany and Argentina have shown interest in using the Tsyklon-4 launch facility, which is under construction at Brazil's Alcantara launch center, Eduard Kuznetsov, deputy director of the National Space Agency of Ukraine Eduard Kuznetsov, said in Kiev on Tuesday.


Stop using pipeline to score political points, says envoy to EU

KIEV, Sept. 10 – The coordinator for the fulfillment of the Ukraine-European Union memorandum on cooperation in the energy sector, Oleksandr Todyichuk, has called on the Ukrainian government and the presidential secretariat to stop using the Odessa-Brody oil pipeline to score political points.


EBRD may lend EUR9.5 million to Polish company for biofuel facility

KIEV, Sept. 7 – The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) may lend EUR9.5 million to Poland’s Barlinek Invest for the construction of a biofuel (pellet) production facility in Kosiv in Ivano-Frankivsk region.
