Government announces plans to complete Khmelnytsky units in 2020

KIEV, Dec. 10 - The Ukrainian government plans to complete the construction of units three and four of the Khmelnytsky nuclear power plant in 2020, as evidenced by a cabinet action program published on the government web portal on Tuesday evening.


SPF stops sale of state stakes in energy and industrial companies

KIEV, Dec. 10 – The State Property Fund has stopped the sale of 25% of DTEK Dniproenergo, 25% of Donbasenergo and 5% of Odessa Port-Side Plant on stock exchanges and suspended the sale of 10% of Centrenergo.


Decline in real Ukraine GDP accelerates to 5.3% in third quarter

KIEV, Dec. 10 – Ukraine's real gross domestic product declined by 5.3% year-on-year in the third quarter, following a Q2 4.7% drop and a Q1 fall 1.1%, the State Statistics Service reported.

In late October, the service estimated the fall in GDP in July-September 2014 compared to July-September 2013 at 5.1%.


Shell and Ukrgazvydobuvannia start exploratory well in Kharkiv

KIEV, Dec. 10 – Shell and Ukrgazvydobuvannia under an agreement on joint operations started drilling a second exploratory well, Novo-Mechebylivska-100 (Blyzniuky district, Kharkiv region), to search for natural gas in sandstone, Shell reported on Monday.


Communist deputies propose state ownership for trunk pipelines

KIEV, Dec. 10 – MPs Yevhen Marmazov and Petro Symonenko (the Communist faction) have proposed that all trunk pipelines located on the territory of Ukraine should be in state ownership.


Energy minister says he's hopeful on revised gas contract with Russia

KIEV, Dec. 10 - Ukrainian Energy and Coal Industry Minister Eduard Stavytsky said he hopes that a mutual understanding would be reached with his Russian partners and that gas contracts would be amended.


NBU predicts slight inflation for 2013 after deflation in 2012

KIEV, Dec. 10 – The National Bank of Ukraine predicts that a small amount of inflation will be recorded at the end of 2013, acting director of the general economic department at the NBU, Olena Kovalenko said.

"We expect that in 2013 the consumer price index will be slightly up," Kovalenko said in the video comments posted on the NBU's Web site.


Kiev city authorities trying to delay subway fare hike, says mayor

KIEV, Dec. 10 – An increase in Kiev's subway fare is imminent, although the city's authorities will delay this increase as long as possible, head of Kiev City Administration Oleksandr Popov said, the Segodnya newspaper reported.
