Ukraine to select LNG terminal site later this month, says government

KIEV, Dec. 8 – Ukraine is planning to select a site for the placement of an LNG terminal by December 22, Vitaliy Demianiuk, the head of the LNG-terminal national project, told the press in Kiev.


Govt bill would allow foreign currency-denominated domestic bonds

KIEV, Dec. 8 – The Ukrainian cabinet is planning to denominate government domestic loan bonds not only in the national currency, but also in foreign currency, according to a draft law on amendments to the law on securities and the stock market (No. 9548), which was submitted to Parliament by the cabinet.


Ukraine may build floating LNG terminal ahead of onshore facility

KIEV, Dec. 8 - Ukraine is looking at the possibility of using a floating LNG terminal while an onshore regasification LNG terminal is being built, Vitaly Demianiuk, head of the coordinating council for the national LNG Terminal project, told the press in Kiev on Thursday.


Government extends mine leasing agreement with Crimea Titan

KIEV, Dec. 8 – The Ukrainian government has extended an agreement with Crimea Titan (Armiansk, Crimea) on the leasing of Irshansk Mining and Processing Plant (Zhytomyr region) and Vilnohirsk Mining and Metallurgical Plant (Dnipropetrovsk region), Oleksandr Riabchenko head of the State Property Fund, told the press in Kiev.


Lithuania wants to buy electricity from Ukraine, says envoy

KIEV, Dec. 8 – Lithuania is still interested in buying supplies of Ukrainian electricity, Marius Yanukonis, Lithuanian Assistant Ambassador to Ukraine said.

"The issue is on the agenda today. We're still interested in acquiring Ukrainian electricity, but we should have a trilateral agreement [with Belarus], which we haven't yet signed," he told Interfax-Ukraine.


NBU ‘ambiguous’ about cabinet’s foreign currency domestic loan bonds

KIEV, Dec. 9 – The National Bank of Ukraine has an ambiguous opinion regarding the cabinet's initiative to issue government domestic loan bonds nominated in foreign currency, said Olena Scherbakova, director of the bank’s chief monetary and credit policy department.


UkrSibbank chairman cites shareholder willingness to provide support

KIEV, Dec. 11 – Kharkiv-based UkrSibbank expects that its largest shareholder - BNP Paribas S.A – will provide support to the bank, according to the bank's board chairman, Oleksandr Adarych.

Ukrainian coke-chemical companies increase coking coal imports

DNIPROPETROVSK, Dec. 11 - Ukrainian coke-chemical companies increased imports of coking coal by 2.5% year-on-year in the first 11 months of 2008, to 9.5 million tons, the general director of steel industry association Metallurgprom, Vasyl Kharakhulakh said Wednesday at a mining and metals industry conference.


Average daily cast iron production spikes in early December

KIEV, Dec. 11 – Average daily cast iron production in Ukraine grew from 42,600 tons in November to 50,900 tons over the first eight days of December, a 20% rise, Economy Minister Bohdan Danylyshyn said at a meeting with representatives of business and scientific circles of Ukraine.


Industry ministry announces plan to support domestic metals market

DNIPROPETROVSK, Dec. 11 – The Industry Ministry plans to actively expand the domestic metals consumption market, expecting support from the government.

Deputy Industry Minister Volodymyr Severniuk said this at a meeting of representatives of mining and metals companies in Dnipropetrovsk on Wednesday.
