City of Kiev to build three wastewater treatment plans by 2014
KIEV, March 12 – Three waste treatment plants to treat waste from the capital will be built in Kiev region by 2014, said Oleksandr Mazurchak first deputy head of Kiev City Administration.
"We plan for the plants to be built in two or three years. I think that in 2014 all three plants will start operating. Some plants could be launched earlier, as they are standard plants, of a modular type," he said.

Tender to select Nadra Ukrayiny Yuzovska development partner
KIEV, March 12 - The state service for geology and deposits of Ukraine has posted details on its Web site on the holding of a tender to select a partner for national joint-stock company Nadra Ukrayiny to develop the Yuzovska (Kharkiv and Donetsk regions).

Yuzhnoukrainsk starts upgrading reactor three simulator computer
KIEV, March 9 - Yuzhnoukrainsk nuclear power plant has started upgrading a simulator of reactor three with the replacement of the main modeling computer, the plant's press service has reported.
"It will take some 19 months to realize the project. It is intended to create a new generation simulator, with which nuclear workers will be able to design the required regimes and situation in real time, including off-project situation – with a damaged active zone, similar to what happened at Japan's Fukushima plant. |
Economist warns of foreign takeover of agricultural land market
KIEV, March 11 – Ukraine could become a victim of appropriation on the land market if foreign states gain control over large land plots, according to Valeriy Heyets, a fellow of the Ukrainian National Academy of Sciences and the director of the Academy's Institute for Economics and Forecasting.

Downturn will strengthen pharmaceutical sector, says trade group
KIEV, March 11 – The economic downturn will considerably strengthen the positions of Ukrainian pharmaceutical plants, allowing them to upgrade production facilities and increase their market share, according to the Association of Pharmaceutical Producers, which unites large pharmaceutical companies in Ukraine. |
Income of Ukrainian banks through February up 81%, NBU reports
KIEV, March 12 – Income of Ukrainian banks in January and February soared year-over-year by 81%, to UAH 26 billion (UAH 14.4 billion in January and February 2008), while their expenditures grew by 95%, to UAH 24 billion (UAH 12.3 billion), according to a posting on official website of the National Bank of Ukraine.
The NBU had earlier refused publishing tentative figures of banks' net profit, which is calculated as the exceeding of incomes over expenses, apart for formed reserves and VAT paid. |
