Ukraine’s foreign trade deficit reported up 1.97% in first half
KIEV, Aug. 12 – The deficit of Ukraine's foreign trade in commodities in H1 grew by 1.97% year-over-year, to $2.515 billion, according to the State Statistics Committee.
The value of exports of goods from Ukraine in January through June grew by 33.5%, to $23.098 billion, while imports rose by 29.6%, to $25.613 billion. |
USDA downgrades Ukraine grain harvest forecast by 6.2 million tons
KIEV, Aug. 12 – The United States Department of Agriculture has downgraded its grain harvest forecast for Ukraine in 2010 by 6.2 million tons, to 38.75 million tons.
According to the USDA, in particular, the wheat harvest was downgraded from 20 million tons to 17 million tons, which allowed it to decrease its export forecast in the next marketing year from eight million tons to six million tons. |
Makarenko lawyer seeks to question representatives of Gazprom
KIEV, Aug. 12 – Yuriy Sukhov, the lawyer for Anatoliy Makarenko, former head of the State Customs Service, has requested the questioning of representatives of the Russian gas giant Gazprom with regard to a criminal case into causing damages to the Ukrainian state in connection with a ruling of the Stockholm Arbitration Tribunal. |
New Boryspil Airport passenger terminal to start operation Oct. 1
KIEV, Aug. 13 – Boryspil International Airport's new Terminal F will start handling regular flights as of October 1.
Starting September 2, the terminal will start handling the arrival of delegations and from September 10 it will handle departures, the Ukrainian Transport and Communications Ministry's press service reported. |
China and Ukraine to boost military cooperation to $1.2b by 2012
KIEV, Aug. 13 – Ukraine and China are planning to boost the volume of their military and technical cooperation to $1.2 billion by 2012.
The estimates were announced by the partners at the sixth meeting of the Ukrainian-Chinese intergovernmental coordinating commission on military and technical cooperation, which was recently held in China, the Ukrainian Industry Ministry announced. |
Russian Soda Company acquires over 80% of Luhansk region soda maker
KIEV, Aug. 13 – Moscow-based ZAO Russian Soda Company has acquired over 80% of Lysychanska Soda in Luhansk region, Ukraine, Kommersant-Ukraine newspaper has reported, citingdeputy governor of Dnipropetrovsk-based PrivatBank Timur Novikov, who was an advisor on the deal. |
