Ukraine to hike oil transit tariffs by 30%, switch to euros, in 2010
Journal Staff Report

KIEV, Dec. 29 – Ukraine will hike tariffs for transit of Russian crude oil to the European Union by 30% in 2010 and will switch to charging euros, not U.S. dollars, for the service.

Ukraine will be charging Russia 6.6 euros ($9.5) for moving one metric ton of its crude oil via Ukrainian territory in 2010, up from slightly more than $7/mt charged in 2009.

“Ukraine and Russia have agreed to hike the transit tariff by 30%,” Valentyn Zemlianskiy, the spokesman for Naftogaz Ukrayiny, said.
