Yushchenko signs social spending bill despite government veto plea
Journal Staff Report

KIEV, Oct. 30 – President Viktor Yushchenko on Friday signed into law a bill that increases wages and pensions, despite the government’s warning that the move would significantly increase inflation and undermine financial stability.

The development is a setback for Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko as it will most likely force the International Monetary Fund to postpone disbursement of a $3.4 billion installment to Ukraine in November.
