KIEV, April 21 – Ukraine cut electricity exports by 48.2% or 836.5 million in kWh year-on-year in Q1, to 897.3 million kWh, the Fuel and Energy Ministry told Interfax-Ukraine.
The key reason for halving of exports is the stoppage of electricity supplies to Moldova, which share in the total electricity exports in Q1 2008 was over 39%. Exports of Ukrainian electricity generated at the at the so-called Island of the Burshtynska Thermal Plant, which was linked up with the European energy system in 2002, fell by 14.8% or 155.1 million kWh year-over-year, to 896.1 million kWh.
