KIEV, April 6 - Funds that Ukraine would receive from Japan after the signing of an agreement on sale of Ukrainian greenhouse gas quotas should be sent to green investment, according to the head of the National Agency for Ecological Investment of Ukraine, Ihor Lupaltsov, who signed the agreement with Japan, has said in an interview with the Dzerkalo Tyzhnya newspaper.
After talks Ukraine signed the agreement on 30 million tons of assigned amount units (AAU) with Japan's New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO), which finances new technologies in Japan. Lupaltsov said that this is a first agreement of such a scale in the world. The agreement would be realized in two tranches of 15 million tons each in 2009 and 2010.
