KIEV, Dec. 5 – The Ukrainian government plans to allocate an additional UAH400 million for refunding defaulted Soviet-era deposits.
The cabinet reported that a draft resolution on the allocation was approved at a meeting of the governmental committee for economic policy headed by First Deputy Prime Minister Oleksandr Turchynov.
The BYT, whose leader Yulia Tymoshenko heads the government, during the last parliamentary election announced their intention to refund defaulted Soviet-era deposits in full in two years. According to the Accounting Chamber of Ukraine, the size of the deposits as of early 2007 was UAH 127.9 billion.
