KIEV, Nov. 7 – Ukraine should try to retain its foreign trade deficit in 2009 at $5 billion, said Petro Poroshenko, head of the Council of the National Bank of Ukraine.
"We believe that the deficit in the balance of payments and the trade balance next year should not exceed $5 billion," he said at a briefing on Thursday.
To attain this goal, the government should stimulate exports, restrict imports and develop domestic production, Poroshenko said.
