KIEV, Sept. 15 - Ukraine's government will explore chances for the early repayment of a debt of $1.3 billion to Russia as part of a plan to revise the rent the Russian Black Sea Fleet, which is based in Ukraine’s Crimean peninsula, is charged for the use of Ukrainian facilities, Ukraine's foreign minister said on Sept. 13.
Currently Ukraine is paying the debt through the fleet's rent being deducted from it.
If the debt is returned ahead of schedule, "we will seek a new rent," the foreign minister, Volodymyr Ohryzko, told reporters in Kiev in an interval during a government meeting.
