KYIV, April 22 – Vast farmland makes Ukraine a potentially strong player in the biomethane market, the development of this market will help strengthen the Ukrainian agricultural sector and help farmers diversify their business, Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine Vitaliy Holovnia said at the First Ukraine Biomethane Forum on Monday.
“For the production of biomethane, waste from crop production, livestock farming and the food processing industry is mainly used. In addition, one of the waste products from biomethane production is digestate, an organic fertilizer. In Europe, digestate already replaces 5-6% of synthetic nitrogen fertilizers and can replace 17-20% of phosphate ones. That is, this will contribute to the revival of Ukrainian soils,” the press service of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food quoted him as saying.
