KYIV, April 22 – The export of agricultural products in Ukrainian ports on the Danube has decreased, and freight rates have fallen by 50-60% compared to last year - the situation in Danube logistics is critical, the Ukrainian Ports Association Ukrport said in an appeal to Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal.
"In 2023, Ukrainian cargo turnover through the Danube ports became a record. The government announced an expansion of the capacity of the Danube cluster from 33 million tons in 2023 to 35-40 million tons in 2024. However, now the situation in Danube logistics is critical. After a rapid 'warming up' of the market, an equally rapid 'cooling' occurred. Considering the huge supply of the fleet and the lack of cargo, freight rates have fallen by 50-60% compared to 2023 and in some cases below the pre-war level," says the text of the appeal published on the association's website.
