KYIV, April 9 – There is a shortage of pea seeds in Ukraine, farmers are ready to expand their production areas due to India's extension of duty-free imports of this legume until June 30, the press service of the Community of Pulse Producers and Customers of Ukraine reported.
"More than 120,000 hectares of peas were sown in Ukraine as of April 7. The news about India's extension of duty-free imports of yellow peas is perceived by the market as an incentive for further investment in production of legumes, which will have impact on the increase in sown areas, yields and will ensure the domestic market and export potential of Ukraine. So far there are not enough pea seeds on the market, which forces Ukrainian farmers to sow commercial peas in the fields. High-quality peeled commercial peas can be used as seed material without loss of harvest," Antonina Skliarenko, head of the Association, said.
