KYIV, Aug 13 – State-owned enterprise State Hydrographic Service of Ukraine (Derzhhydrografia) of the State Service of Marine and River Transport of Ukraine has initiated the creation of a marine classified region around the occupied Crimean peninsula to ban entrance of ships to all ports of the peninsula, according to a posting on the official website of the enterprise.
"The announcement of the classified region will give Ukraine the opportunity of not only acting against the aggressor, but also, as a responsible legal state, ensuring the fulfillment of obligations to the world community in several directions at once. We will be able to minimize risks for sailors in terms of navigation and hydrographic support, relieve Ukraine of a responsibility for any emergency events that may occur as a result of criminal acts of the Russian Federation in the internal sea waters and the territorial sea of Ukraine around the Crimean peninsula, and also nullify the attempts of Russians to map the specified region," Head of the State Hydrographic Service Oleksandr Schiptsov said.
