"Chernobyl" mini-series may double number of tourists to exclusion zone in 2019
Journal Staff Report

KYIV, June 6 – The number of tourists to the Chernobyl exclusion zone in 2019 could double year-on-year following the release of the mini-series "Chernobyl" to up to 150,000, Yaroslav Yemelianenko, who directs Chornobyl Tour and the Association of Chernobyl Tour Operators.

"This year CLICK HERE we expected to reach from 100,000 to 110,000 because of the usual growth in demand for Chernobyl tourism. Last year, there were 70,000 tourists. But given the release of the series, we can reach 150,000," he said, noting that 90% of tourists are foreigners, despite the fact that the cost of the tour for Ukrainian citizens is three to four times cheaper.
