KYIV, Feb 5 – The strengthening of the hryvnia seen with the start of the election campaign, not taking into account New Year holidays, was furthered on Tuesday: the exchange rate of the national currency on the interbank currency market on Tuesday fell to UAH 27.135/$1 from UAH 27.375/$1 on Monday.
As dealers of commercial banks told Interfax-Ukraine, the hryvnia quotes by the end of trading amounted to UAH 27.12-27.15/$1.
The National Bank explained the increased supply, which is not typical for this period of the year, by maturity of the Ukrainian foreign exchange market, which made it harder for currency speculators to loosen sentiment.
