KYIV, May 14 – The Ukrainian Association of Scrap Metals and Resources, UAVtormetresurs, harshly criticized plans to prolong export duties on scrap metal and increase them from EUR 30 per metric ton to EUR 42 per mt.
The plan was suggested by lobbyists for the metallurgical industry seeking to boost subsidies to $200 million for the metallurgical companies in 2016-2017.
UAVtormetresurs addressed the problem in a letter on May 8 was sent to First Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Economic Development and Trade Stepan Kubiv, while its copies to the U.S. Embassy and the EU Delegation to Ukraine.
