KYIV, March 20 - The chances of Russia's Gazprom to effectively cancel the decision of the Stockholm arbitration, made in late February 2018, are slim, but the procedure of executing this decision may drag on for years, lawyers said.
In particular, Oleksandr Volkov, the senior lawyer of international arbitration and judicial practice at EPAP Ukraine law firm, commenting on the arbitration decision and possible scenarios for its implementation, noted that, based on the content of statements by the representatives of Gazprom and Naftogaz, there are two arbitration decisions. According to the first, the Ukrainian company owes about $2 billion to the Russian company for the supplied natural gas plus a fine for delay in payment and, according to the second one, the Russian company must pay more than $4 billion to the Ukrainian company plus a penalty for delay in payment, while the difference between these amounts is $2.56 billion.
